5 Anime Series Like Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated ongoing anime series of winter 2024. Fans have been waiting for this series to air since its announcement. The plot follows the story of Jinwoo, an E-Rank hunter called the “Weakest Hunter in the World.” From being the biggest underdog, he becomes immensely overpowered.

Chugong’s manhwa does a great job featuring everything from spirits and monsters to politics and brotherhood. However, for people who aren’t content with Solo Leveling alone, here are a few more series that have a similar trope of the main character being extremely overpowered.

1. Tower of God

Tower of God was adapted into an anime from SIG’s manhwa of the same name. The story revolves around the Tower of God that summons people called “Regulars” and bestows them with whatever they wish for as long as they reach the top. The story’s main character, Bam, follows Rachel, the sunshine of his life, in her journey as she wishes to reach the Tower.

Although the Tower doesn’t summon Bam, for some reason, he is able to stick with Rachel. Out of sheer determination, Bam is seen to have the ability to open the gates. Moreover, in the series, his kind, called Irregulars, is rare.

2. Overlord

Overlord is one of the best isekai series that has the setting of a virtual game. With an immaculate plot and engaging characters, the anime became immensely popular among fans. The anime follows a veteran gamer named Momonga through the terminal moments of the virtual reality game Yggdrasil.

However, when the game is supposed to go offline, Momonga finds himself trapped inside with the few other players who remain to witness its last moments. As the in-game characters develop their personalities and attitudes, Momonga gathers the other players and begins exploring his surroundings as he feels determined to get out.

3. DanMachi

Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in the Dungeon?, or DanMachi, takes place in a world where gods and humans coexist in the noisy city of Orario. The main character of the series is Bell Cranel, who is portrayed as a naïve young man with big dreams and hopes to become the mightiest adventurer.

Bell Cranel stumbles upon a solitary goddess, Hestia. She walks him closer to his goal, which seemed impossible before this uneventful meeting. The anime series has won over audiences with the dungeons, monsters, and a determined main character. All kinds of wins, losses, and everything in between await Bell.

4. The Devil is a Part-Timer!

The plot of The Devil is a Part-Timer! revolves around Sadao Maou, or Satan, who is a part-time worker at MgRonald’s in Japan. But he isn’t ordinary, as he fled to Earth after losing the Ente Isla battle. However, his demon lord’s blood isn’t suppressed as Sadao Maou dreams of rising to a prominent position within the corporation and taking over the world. As such, The Devil is a Part-Timer is a great reverse isekai anime with excellent comedy and drama.

The story of Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor follows Glenn Radars, who hesitantly becomes a teacher in the prestigious Alzano Imperial Magic Academy. Glenn is rather carefree and nonchalant, making his demeanor unfit to be a teacher.

However, the story takes an intense turn when a threat hovers over the school. This results in Glenn and two of his students, Sistine Fibel and Rumia Tingel, getting caught up in their academy’s political power struggle. Amidst the life and death situations hurled upon them, the students strive to be the best magicians they can be.
