June Carter Cash Documentary: New Trailer Delves Into the Life of Late Country Icon

Paramount+ will release a new documentary titled, JUNE, which will showcase the life and career of late American singer, songwriter, and dancer, June Carter Cash. In its new trailer, personalities like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Kacey Musgraves speak of her fondly. Furthermore, they even hail her for being a working mother on the road and an underrated country icon.

June Carter Cash belonged to the Carter Family, a celebrated traditional American folk music group who were active from 1927 to 1956. She won five Grammy Awards, and she was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame after her demise.

June Carter Cash was born on June 23, 1929, to Maybelle and Ezra Carter. According to Biography, she and her sisters, Helen and Anita, performed as the Carter Sisters. In this group, June sang, played the autoharp, and rhythm guitar, and even entertained the audience with comedy.

According to a Paramount+ press release, the description of the upcoming documentary reads, “Produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Vision, and Maxine Productions (a part of Sony Pictures Television), JUNE shines an important spotlight on the history of country music and the mark the Carter and Cash families made on the genre before diving into the complex life of the legendary June Carter Cash.”

It further reads,

“The five-time Grammy® Award-winning singer, comedian, musician, actor and author has opened for Elvis, appeared on-screen with Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour and co-wrote one of the most recognizable country songs of all time, “Ring of Fire.” Perhaps, at times, overshadowed by her iconic husband Johnny Cash, the time is now for June to take center stage.”

JUNE will premiere in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Who was June Carter Cash married to?

June was married thrice. Her first husband was country singer Carl Smith with whom she had a daughter named Rebecca Carlene Smith aka Carlene Carter. The pair tied the knot in 1952 and were together until their divorce in 1956.

June’s second husband was Edwin “Rip” Nix. They got married in 1957 and had a daughter named Rosie Nix Adams. However, they went their separate ways in 1966. Their daughter died on October 24, 2003, from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

June’s third and last marriage was to the legendary Johnny Cash. Cash proposed to her in the late 60s and they remained together until her death in May 2003. Four months after June’s death, Johnny Cash also passed away. At the time of her death, she was 73 years old.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2000, June stated, “I never talked about how I fell in love with John. It was not a convenient time for me to fall in love with him, and it wasn’t a convenient time for him to fall in love with me.”

She further said, “One morning, about four o’clock, I was driving my car just about as fast as I could… I was miserable, and it all came to me: ‘I’m falling in love with somebody I have no right to fall in love with’… I thought, ‘I can’t fall in love with this man, but it’s just like a ring of fire.”
