Nacon Rig 900 Max HX Review: Gaming Headset Delivers Great Audio

While the Nacon Rig 600 Pro is a great entry-level headset, the company’s latest premium headset — the Nacon Rig 900 Max HX — is a natural evolution.

While it uses a similar design to the 600, with its easily customizable snap-to-fit earcups, it’s an even nicer design. The headband offers more comfort, the earcups’ cover is softer, and the microphone is a nicer design — although it loses the functionality to fold into the headset. It’s immediately a better experience and feels great when wearing it thanks to its lightweight and comfortable design — making it ideal for longer gaming sessions.

Of course, comfort means little if it isn’t backed up by quality and the Nacon Rig 900 Max HX sounds great. Races in Forza Motorsport sounded incredible, thanks to its Dolby Atmos support. Providing a rich 3D soundscape, I was able to fully experience the thrills of racing. The high-sensitivity 40mm audio drivers deliver high-quality audio that can go quite loud if you want it without it peaking, and I came away quite impressed by the quality of the bass in particular.

Similar to its 600 counterpart, this also features three wireless modes — Game, Bluetooth, and Dual. The first two are quite self-explanatory, but it’s the third that’s a really handy selling point. By being able to connect to the game using a 2.4 GHz USB-A adapter, it’s able to also connect to your phone via Bluetooth. This allows you to not miss a call while gaming and being able to stay connected to the outside world. It’s a great feature for anyone who is busy or just wants to make sure they’re reachable, even when they’re highly immersed in Starfield or Call of Duty.

While the Nacon Rig 900 Max HX is designed for Xbox consoles, it also works with PlayStation and PC via its USB-A adapter, while the 5.1 Bluetooth allows it to connect to Nintendo Switch and mobile. Make no mistake, this is a great headset no matter where you use it, although it’s worth noting that it has game-chat balance on Xbox — making it ideal for that platform.

As seen in the trailer above, the Rig 900 Max HX also comes with a really nice charging base station, which is an awesome bonus. It’s an easy way to both charge your headset and store it when not in use. Not that you’ll need to constantly charge it, though, as it features a 50-hour battery life on a 2.4 GHz connection and lasts even longer using Bluetooth. Either way, it’ll never run out mid-session and has a really impressive battery life.

The headset’s sound can also be further personalized by the use of the Dolby Personalization app and the 900 Navigator app. It’s incredibly easy to set and manage audio profiles in Nacon’s own app, while the Dolby app scans the shape of your head, ears, and shoulders to create an acoustic map tailored toward you. It’s really impressive and is definitely worth doing, as it improves the overall experience.

Nacon Rig 900 Max HX Review: Final Verdict

The Nacon Rig 900 Max HX is an impressive gaming headset that delivers a premium experience with Xbox owners in mind. With Dolby Atmos providing great sound, an impressive battery life, and a comfortable lightweight design, this has been expertly crafted to make long gameplay sessions as fun as possible.
